

Athlete of the Week: NyGhee Lolley (WR) NyGhee Lolley delivered a strong performance in Saturday’s home game on October 5th, despite Delaware State’s 28-17 loss to Saint Francis. Lolley made 8 receptions for 95 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per catch. This was his best game of the season, even though he didn’t score.
So far this season, Lolley has 20 receptions on 21 targets, totaling 271 receiving yards with 1 touchdown, and averages 13.6 yards per catch and 45.2 yards per game.
On defense, Barry Wagner (#11, Safety) and Anton Ricumstrict (#12, DL) each made 5 tackles. Fumble recoveries were recorded by Eric Montes (#99, DL), Darren Cook (#94, DL), and Kyree Benton (#88, WR). The Hornets (1-6) aim to bounce back as they head to Robert Morris this Saturday, October 12th.

Other Sports News:
On Monday, September 30th, the Delaware State Triathlon team competed in the Robious Landing Triathlon, finishing 5th out of 15 teams. Ava Larkin led the team, placing 9th, while Reut Shahar followed in 30th. A total of 76 NCAA women participated in the event.

New Women’s Lacrosse Coach:
On October 1st, Dr. Alecia Shields-Gadson introduced Dianna Eberl as the new Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. Eberl’s lacrosse journey started in 1981, and she continues as both a player and coach. A standout at Moorestown High School in New Jersey, she was a senior all-star, all-conference first-team selection, and state champion. She played collegiately at Rowan University, where she set several records, including most career saves (698) and highest save percentage in a season (64.5%). After her playing career, she became Head Coach at Middle Township High School and led U.S. teams to victories in the Brogden Cup and Berlin Cup.

Equestrian Honors:
Delaware State athletes earned three ECAC Rider of the Week awards on October 1st:
Flat: Olivia Brown earned MOP honors after outscoring her opponent by 16 points.
Horsemanship: Ashley Grasso delivered a winning ride, outscoring her opponent by half a point and earning MOP recognition.
Reining: Anna Payne had a strong performance, outscoring her opponent by 1.5 points to earn MOP.



Volleyball Update:
After a loss to Howard on Friday (20-25, 16-25, 19-25), the Hornets’ volleyball team bounced back with a three-set win over Norfolk State on Sunday (25-19, 25-18, 25-20). Gerren Tomlin led the team with 18 kills and 12 digs, helping Delaware State improve to 6-10 overall and 2-1 in MEAC play.

Cross Country Achievement:
Senior Purity Kattam was named MEAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after placing 7th at the Don Cathcart Invitational. Delaware State finished 3rd as a team with a total of 77 points.
Women’s Soccer:
The Delaware State women’s soccer team suffered a 6-0 defeat to Central Connecticut State on Sunday, October 6th. The Hornets are now 0-11-1 overall and 0-3-1 in DI Independent competition. Goalkeeper Katie Knapp made six saves, while Delaware State managed five shots, four of them on goal. They look to secure their first win of the season when they face LeMoyne College on Thursday.
