Barry Wagner stood out on the Hornets’ defense, leading the team with 13 total tackles, including 8 solo and 5 assisted. This game marked his first time this season recording over 10 tackles and his second game with 5 or more solo tackles, surpassing his previous career highs from Western Kentucky. For the season, Wagner’s totals include 45 tackles (29 solo, 16 assisted), 1 interception, and 5 passes defended.
Hornets Volleyball Team Struggles After Comeback Victory
After an impressive comeback win against Morgan, where the Delaware State volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win in five sets on October 27, they faced disappointment in their next matches. The Hornets lost to the Howard Lady Bison in three straight sets at home, followed by another defeat against Norfolk State on November 3. These losses brought Delaware State’s overall record to 10-13 and 6-4 in MEAC play. In all three matches, Gerren Tomlin recorded double-doubles. The Hornets will look to bounce back on November 8 at home against N.C. Central at 6:00 p.m.
Hornets Excel in Academic Honors
On October 31, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2024 Cross Country All-Academic Selections, honoring student-athletes from eight institutions who excelled academically during the 2023-24 academic year. To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and transfer students must have been at the institution for at least one year.
MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills expressed her congratulations to the cross-country student-athletes for their academic achievements, emphasizing the importance of balancing academics and athletics.

Soccer Team Continues to Struggle
On October 31, Delaware State lost to Howard with a score of 6-0 at Scott D. Miller Stadium. This defeat leaves their record at 0-17-1 overall and 0-9-1 in DI Independent play. Shelby Pollard led the Hornets with an impressive 15 saves.
Hornets Finish Third in MEAC Championship
On November 2, the Delaware State men’s cross country team concluded the 2024 season by finishing third at the MEAC Championships. Several runners achieved top 15 finishes, earning All-MEAC honors. Notably, sophomore Marian Drazan finished sixth with a time of 24:31.6, while Devin Smith placed ninth with a time of 25:27.6, and Jonathan Drew finished tenth at 25:34.6.
Women’s Basketball Team Claims Victory
On November 4, the Delaware State women’s basketball team opened their season with a strong 71-44 victory over Georgian Court at home. McKenzie Stewart and Ericka Huggins each contributed 12 rebounds, with Huggins adding 11 points and three steals. Mahogany Cottingham also made an impact, scoring 16 points and collecting three steals. The Hornets dominated the offensive boards, securing 21 second-chance points. Defensively, they held Georgian Court to 29.2% shooting, limiting their offensive opportunities.
The Hornets will return to action on November 8 when they travel to face the University of Dayton, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Men’s Basketball Team Faces Tough Start
On November 4, Martaz Robinson scored 30 points for the Delaware State men’s basketball team, but they fell short against Virginia Tech, losing 83-60. Robinson also contributed six rebounds, while Corey Perkins added eight points, four assists, and two steals. Delaware State excelled on the offensive glass, grabbing 10 offensive rebounds and earning eight second-chance points. Their defense forced 16 turnovers from Virginia Tech, leading to 14 points for the Hornets.
The men’s team will be back in action on November 9 when they take on Columbia University, with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
