Yellow Shoots is Gregory Matthews, a Brooklyn-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and synesthete who sees music in bursts of bright colors. Blurring the lines between soul, psychedelia, R&B, and analog funk, Yellow Shoots records straight to tape — playing and arranging every instrument himself — crafting songs that feel cinematic and dreamlike.
His viral 2025 single “Soft One,” a retro-soul slow-burn cut to 4-track tape, lit up short-form platforms and introduced his singular sound to a much wider world. Pulled from his unfolding EP series, Will You Bring The Rain, “Soft One” sparked millions of views and caught the attention of both indie and hip-hop communities. A rare full-band On The Radar session followed, along with social co-signs from Timbaland, Jermaine White and former members of Jamiroquai, who’ve praised his work.
With a sound that lives between the spiritual and the sensual — all delivered with a distinctly DIY ethos — Yellow Shoots is carving out his own lane in modern alt-soul, where every track feels like a faded photograph brought to life in real time.
