
Yesterday (Oct 25th) was a day of celebration at North Carolina Central University, as it was homecoming in Durham, as the DeSean Jackson lead Delaware State Hornets, played gatecrashers as they took down the Eagles in the nest 35-26.
Not only does this victory mark DSU’s first MEAC win under Coach Jackson and improves the Hornets to a 5-3 overall record and 1-0 in the MEAC sitting in first place, but this also marks the first time that DSU football has defeated NCCU for the first time since 1977.
Wide Receiver NyGheeLolley had a monster day recording 5 receptions, 124 yards and 3 touchdowns making it a career-high in yards and touchdowns in a game for him. On the ground for the Hornets, Marquis Gillis who is currently the number one rusher in the MEAC continues to dominate, putting 108 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns on the day.
Quarterback Kaiden Bennett contributed to the win as well completing 9/15, 212 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. NCCU’s, Walker Harris completed 22/32 passes for 354 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and Chance Peterson had 6 receptions & 134 yards.
Delaware State gets set to take on the Michael Vick lead Norfolk State Spartans this Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field at 7PM EST on ESPNU.
