Baron Von Alias isn’t interested in keeping up with the competition. On “Buck Rogers,” he’s already several centuries ahead.
The Newcastle Upon Tyne artist teams with The High & Mighty and Copywrite for a rugged new underground hip-hop cut produced by Doc Sus, with DJ Mighty Mi behind the turntables.
Baron, Mr. Eon, and Copywrite attack the production with the type of sharp lyricism and competitive edge that feels planted firmly in hip-hop’s battle-tested roots. Mighty Mi’s cuts add another layer, particularly the phrase “They Can’t Think, They Can’t Speak,” which serves as the track’s unofficial mission statement.
Inspired by Buck Rogers’ adventures in the 25th century, Baron transforms the sci-fi reference into a metaphor for MCs working so far ahead of their peers that the competition can’t even understand what they’re doing.
The record also pushes Baron another step closer to his forthcoming album, Bootstrap Paradox, a project centered around time travel and interconnected narratives.
“Buck Rogers” may be looking toward the future, but its DNA is pure underground hip-hop: beats, bars, cuts, and MCs ready to prove their point.
