Michael-Jamal Spencer aka P-Air Smooth is a multi-faceted artist on a mission to bring “Real R&B” back. Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, Michael-Jamalofficially started singing at the age of five in his grandfather’s church located in Dover, Delaware. Ever since that moment he decided to make music his priority. He moved to Baltimore, MD with his mother and step-father. While in Baltimore, he joined multiple choirs and was introduced to Classical music. He also took on a Music major which aided him in learning everything from reading/writing music to learning instruments to learning to sing in a foreign language.
Family matters led him back to Milwaukee where he started recording his vocals at Trio Records. While being with Trio Records, he became known for being the ladies’ man. He performed at various local events and would go on to openup for the likes of Slick Rick. He alsoformed ties that would elevate his performance resume, placing him at popular club venues around the city. He officially found his sound while being back in Milwaukee as well. He was able to get his feelings, words, and vocals all to align to reflect his true expressions.
Time would see Michael-Jamal returning to his Delaware roots. He linked up with the major players behind Smalltown Records and boosted his musical catalog. After spending so much time with other imprints, Michael-Jamal finally decided to step out on his own. In 2012, Intelligent Minded Soldiers, LLC was born and the #ReturnOfRealRnB Movement officially took flight. Michael-Jamal dropped his debut mixtape, Just the Beginning. He took to the grind both digitally and in the streets. His hustle caught the attention of his fellow artists who believed in and wanted to take part in his movement. He decided to use his knowledge& experience to help guide a select few talents. The movement saw success in the Tri-State area. Michael-Jamal used the momentum as inspiration to audition for infamous television competition shows, American Idol and The Voice.Things didn’t quite pan out for the superstar hopeful. However, he did not let that deter him from his mission/movement. And in 2013, he found himself the recipient of four different Indie Underground Music Awards.
The next couple of years would see some significant changes for Michael-Jamal both musically and personally. There were shifts in the roster on his LLC and he was catapulted into the world of fatherhood. He managed to stay on top of it all though and even found time to release his debut LP, Michael-Jamal Vs. P~Air Smooth #AriesShit. He also managed to pull off his first R&B Showcase which was deemed a success. Eventually, Michael-Jamal made his way to the West Coast. He garnered a few more singles under his belt and got his feet wet in networking with other brands. Additionally, he expanded his entrepreneurial efforts outside of the music realm and kick started his own cleaning business, MJ&S Cleaning Services, LLC.
To date, Michael-Jamal continues to advance his movement increative and unorthodox ways. He represents a voice for the Poly Community. He’s dabbling in other genres such as Country. He’s a brand ambassador for a fresh Indie clothing company. He’sholding his own amongst the movers & shakers on Tik-Tok, Facebook Reels, etc. And of course, there is always new music in the works. He has an upcoming collaboration projectcalled V.I.B.E.S. (Vocalizing Into Bodies & Embracing Souls), which he will release as part of a duo called Royalty Reigns. He also plans to hit the world with his junior solo effort, MJ3: Unfiltered.So, there is no shortage of avenues that Michael-Jamal is willing to take in order to put himself out there. With an unrelenting hustle and an overflowing passion, Michael-Jamal Spencer (P-Air Smooth) is sure to continue bringing the “real” back to music and whatever else he touches for many more years to come.
