Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s hit single “WAP” didn’t need much time to earn its platinum certification. The Recording Industry Association of America congratulated the two artists for pulling off a rare feat: going platinum in the same month as the song’s release.
According to the RIAA, “WAP” was officially certified platinum on August 26. The track dropped on August 7 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Cardi and Megan’s collaborative single racked up roughly 93 million streams in the U.S. in its first week, which broke the record for most streams for a song in its debut week. Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” previously held the honor with 85.3 million streams in February 2019.
“WAP” also made history in the United Kingdom when it hit No. 1 on the UK’s Offical Singles Chart. It marked the first time a female rap collaboration had ever reached the top of the chart.
