Q: Growing up as a child, who were some of your favorite mainstream artists that influenced you to start singing?
Golden Way: Wow, that’s always so hard to answer because there are so many greats! Growing up in the 90s was the time I want to go back to when Mariah Carey was collaborating with Whitney Houston. Like Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Kelly Price, groups like Xscape, and many others all were killing it.
Q: At what age did you start singing, and can you remember the first song that you ever sang?
Golden Way: I have a family full of singers. Although I’m just beginning to share music now, I’ve been singing all my life pretty much and always loved anything to do with music.
Q: Can you remember your first time being in a recording studio? If so, what was that experience like?
Golden Way: I remember it so well because one of my favorite aunties took me when I was 16 years old. I immediately fell for music even more just seeing all of the equipment and instruments. I had a great vocal coach at the time and to experience a recording studio as a teenager was like a dream.
Q: What was the very first song that you ever wrote?
Golden Way: I was so young I can’t remember what it was called! But when I discovered I had a voice I was just making up anything and I’d go to my sisters to let them hear. I would sing at church and home of course, but when I began to play with instruments my first song was actually on the piano.
Q: What is the process like when you’re in the studio? What do you need in the studio with you when you’re getting ready to record?
Golden Way: Well I definitely like it to be closed. I don’t need much, just some water and a vibe for real. I used to get extremely nervous and sweaty hahaa! But all of it’s gone now.
Q: If you could work with any mainstream artist, who would it be with, and why?
Golden Way: Another hard one because I get to see so many different talents. I will say Chris Brown he’s been killing it and Cardi B. They’re both talented.
Q: What was the concept behind your single Heard It All?
Golden Way: That song stems from being hurt by deceit but realizing the true value of self and worth. He’s going to do what he wants. Standing on your own and just being strong enough to remove yourself from bullshit. So much.
Q: Your recent single Trust has been getting a lot of good feedback. How did you come up with the concept for that single?
Golden Way: I like being able to relate to others. There are ways to reach people without having chaos. Basically not wanting to be treated like a toy or a price tag you can’t buy me. Having to explain to people not to play with you is stressful. So Trust is saying stop playing with me before something happens that can’t be taken back.
Q: Do you find it difficult to write songs, or do you write about what you’re dealing with, or what’s going on around you?
Golden Way: I don’t think it’s difficult to write. I write with vibes. Like, if my feelings are hurt I’m going to put it in a song.
Q: What can we expect next from Golden Way?
Golden Way: I have a new single called ‘Different’ releasing August 4th and my Album ‘Far From Nice’ will be released in 2024.
Q: Thank you for taking time out to conduct this interview. Are there any last comments that you would like to make?
Golden Way: I appreciate the love, support, and feedback. Be on the lookout for my new single ‘Different’ releasing August 4, 2023.
