Amid a great year for hip-hop documentaries, OBB Productions announced today (Aug. 2) a project with potential to extend the trend. Deadline reports that the studio is producing a feature doc chronicling the rise of Jeezy.

The film will be directed by Mandon Lovett, best known for his work directing Chicago and Miami episodes of the WorldStarHipHop documentary series The Field. A release date is not set, but it will drop at an appropriate time in the Southern rapper’s career. Jeezy announced in March that the in-progress Thug Motivation 104 will be his final album. And next up? He wants to be an actor.

Lovett will have no trouble finding interesting plot lines. As an early benefactor of the Black Mafia Family’s entertainment arm, Jeezy’s climbed to the top as a rapper in Atlanta around a historic crime organization on the verge of its downfall. His mixtapes and albums soundtracked the South during the 2000s and helped establish a trap sound that persists today.

The Jeezy doc is one of three music-related projects announced by OBB’s new music division. A mockumentary spoofing VH1’s Behind the Music series and a docu-series in partnership with Monster Energy’s annual Outbreak Tour are also in the works.
